Concept

What was always above us

In Najdi homes, the ceiling was part of everyday life. Always overhead, it protected, shaded and gathered people, without ever asking for attention.

It was made from materials our grandparents knew well: athel wood and palm fronds. Not symbolic materials but essential ones, used in building, in furniture and in every detail of daily life.

Suqouf recalls that memory not by rebuilding the ceiling, but by taking apart what happened beneath it. Its roles become contemporary pieces that organize seating, shape light and define space.

The warm natural materials of the past meet the sharp industrial material of today. Not to compare them, but to show the continuity between what was and how we live now.

01 · Light

Daw ضو

Light was never a source in the Najdi house, but a trace the ceiling left behind. Here that trace is reshaped into a contemporary light.

The qa’da, the place to sit and gather, lived under the ceiling. Here it becomes contemporary seating that carries the same trace.
